Have you ever tried to write a script with AI?
Aug 04, 2025So... I tried to write a script with AI.
Not because I wanted to replace my creativity, but because I wanted to understand the tool. But the second I logged in, I felt like I was sneaking behind Final Draft’s back. Like I was committing a creative crime. Still, I went for it.
But here's the thing they don’t tell you: To get AI to write your script, you have to feed it the ENTIRE thing upfront. Plot points. Character arcs. What they want. What they fear. The world. The tone. The structure. The damn beatsheet. And I just sat there thinking...
If I have to do all this work just to get a lifeless, mediocre draft back… why not just write the script myself?
Because for me? The hard part isn’t typing the scenes.
It’s crafting the story.
Building the characters.
Figuring out what happens, why it matters, and how it all fits together.
That’s the craft. That’s the magic. That’s the stuff AI can’t do. So no! AI won’t save you from learning story.
It won’t fix your structure. It won’t invent your characters. And it sure as hell won’t make your audience feel anything if you don’t know what you’re doing. If you’re serious about getting your story made and you want to learn the actual craft so you can create with or without AI.
