Take a Chance at AFM: Get Pitch‑Ready Now
The end of the year is coming and you still haven’t found a home (studio) or the money for your project. AFM is where you need to be for your film or even TV project. AFM is definitely more geared to film, but the buyers there are also usually doing TV as well.
One thing I’ll say is it’s great to go to AFM and enter the pitch competition or just watch it — but be prepared to pitch. Why do I say this?
At some point you’re going to get your chance to be in front of a decision maker. A studio or an investor. You don’t want that to be your first time talking about your project under pressure.
I challenge you to make yourself uncomfortable and take a chance. Enter that competition. If that’s too much — okay. But show up and be prepared to pitch someone you meet, if the moment presents itself.
This will do a couple of things for you:
- You’ll force yourself to grow and become a creative who takes their projects out.
- You’ll become a deeper part of the entertainment business community and make a new friend.
Maybe this will lead to a deal? Maybe this will lead to an introduction to that one investor who starts the ball rolling with your project. But what you don’t want to do is wait for that one meeting with no experience behind you.
Failure is a good teacher and has a lot of value. So go on! Take a chance at AFM and enter the pitch competition.
