Most filmmakers are still playing the old game. Make the thing. Shop it around. Beg somebody to distribute it. And when they say no, you blame the industry. Let me show you what Most filmmakers are still playing the old game. Make the thing. Shop it around. Beg somebody to distribute it. And when they say no, you blame the industry. Let me show you what happens when you flip it. Mark Fischbach (Markiplier) is a YouTuber. He self financed his indie horror film happens when you flip it. Mark Fischbach (Markiplier) is a YouTuber. Iron Lung and shared the entire process with his audience. Not just the trailer. The journey. When the film came out, it was only in about 60 theaters. So Mark told his audience: if you want this in your city, call your theater and request it. And they did. Fans picked up the phone. They made noise. They demanded it.

The release expanded from 60 theaters to more than 4,100 locations worldwide. That's the part people miss. The flex isn't "I made a movie." Everybody makes movies. The flex is that he had people willing to pick up the phone and fight for it. That's what it looks like when you own demand.

About whether Paul Thomas Anderson should have answered more directly when asked about ...
Black women don't get to be flawed on screen. Why not?
Teyana Taylor played a character who made bad choices. Some people lost their minds about it. One Battle After Another won Best Picture last weekend. Six Oscars total. And somewhere in the middle of all that celebrating, a real conversation was happening that deserves more room than it got. Teyana Taylor plays "Perfidia Beverly Hills" in the film. She is a revolutionary who is also deeply, genu...
